Companions and chat

Give several companions a scene to share

A group conversation lets more than one fictional AI companion respond to the same situation. You still supply your own messages, but the cast can react within a shared scene. Group Chat is included with Ultimate.

Open chat choices

Choose a cast before building the plot

Use the plus control in the chat list, switch from Private to Group Chat and choose two or three companions. Supported custom characters can join catalogue companions. An optional group name helps distinguish the thread from your private conversations.

Try a simple premise for the first exchange: the cast has entered a local cooking contest and must agree on a dish. Give each companion a reason to participate before adding a rival team or another twist. A shared location and immediate decision make it easier to follow who is doing what.

The participants are AI characters, not a room of human members. Group access changes the conversation format; it does not turn generated responses into live human chat.

Choose continuity for each companion

A shared thread does not create a single universal memory. Set the lorebook or older memory scope for each companion. Reuse established continuity when this group belongs to an existing story; keep a different premise separate when it should not inherit those events.

Before changing a lorebook, check which chats use it. Several conversations with the same companion can share one book, and an edit affects those conversations too. If one participant gets a detail wrong, review that participant's continuity rather than assuming the whole cast has the same stored information.

Adjust settings inside the group itself

Use the group's own settings for mode, thinking level and scene clock. Account defaults are intended for new chats and do not necessarily update the group already open. Check the active thread before making a change meant only for this storyline.

Group photos are available, with media charges separate from text messaging. In supported Studio group photos, the limit is three people total, including your persona if used. Choosing three companions for a conversation does not add a fourth place for a persona in a photo.

Group voice calls are labelled beta. Review the available controls and charges before starting one. A stopped reply can also appear for one companion while the others continue; inspect the individual response before resending your message to the entire group.

Questions and answers

What is the maximum group size?

Select two or three AI companions when you create a Group Chat. These are companion places, not additional human users.

Can I start a group with Premium?

No. Group Chat requires Ultimate. Premium includes lorebooks for private conversations, but those do not unlock the group format.

May I include a character I created?

Yes, supported custom characters can be selected alongside catalogue companions. Choose the cast in the Group Chat tab.

Do the participants automatically share all memories?

No. Review the continuity selected for each companion. A shared scene does not merge every participant's stored history.

Have a character in mind?
